Premier Li Keqiang attended the online opening ceremony of the 127th China Import and Export Fair (also known as the Canton Fair) on June 15 and inspected enterprises’ exhibitions.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Canton Fair is being held online this year, and it attracted about 26, 000 enterprises from home and abroad.
Premier Li announced the opening of the 127th Canton Fair at about 10 am, and then inspected some online exhibition halls.
At the exhibition hosted by GREE Electric Appliances, the company’s representative said the online exhibition is innovative and the company can display all of its products.
The Premier said the online fair pioneers a new way to develop international trade, and delivers China’s determination to expand opening-up and maintain the safety of international industrial and supply chains.
Also, he encouraged GREE to strengthen sci-tech innovations, and develop high-quality products to meet market demands, and continue to play its leading role in promoting the “Made in China” brand with stronger competitiveness and greater achievements.
The representative from Locteck, a manufacturer of products for a smart office and healthy home, told the Premier that the company has increased exports through developing cross-border e-commerce.
The Premier asked about their difficulties, and was told that the company needs help to expand its overseas warehouses, which will encourage other small and medium-sized enterprises to enter international markets.
Premier Li said that developing cross-border e-commerce is a way for enterprises to survive and compete against the backdrop of the epidemic. Also, building more overseas warehouse platforms for small and medium-sized enterprises will help them achieve common development through cross-border e-commerce.
He asked related departments to investigate the company’s suggestion and provide support.
The manager of Tangshan’s Huida Group told the Premier that their ceramic sanitary ware is not only for export, but also expanding in the domestic market, especially providing suitable products to meet the residents’ needs in renovating old neighborhoods.
Premier Li said that ceramic industry is a typically traditional one, but it is continuously upgrading and developing. Since China is promoting consumption and upgrading, it can make innumerable great achievements if traditional industries are well developed. The Premier told the manager he hopes his company can seize the opportunity brought by old neighborhood renovation during the construction of new-type urbanization, make good use of the policy that promotes sales of export-oriented commodities at home, and continue to improve the quality and enrich the variety of products to better meet people’s needs. Also, product competitiveness should be improved continuously to enlarge development potential in the international market.
Premier Li stressed that China is a big open market featuring strong global potential. The country will keep improving import facilitation and increase readily marketable products to share the opportunities of the Chinese market with enterprises all over the world. China is willing to cooperate with all countries to empower world economy recovery.
The second half of this year will continue to see a severe and complex external environment, which will exert a lasting influence on the country’s import and export, Premier Li said, calling efforts to ensure six priorities and stability in six key areas, to stabilize foreign trade and foreign investment, and to complete the annual economic and social development goals of this year.
Vice-Premier Hu Chunhua inaugurated the opening ceremony of the fair. Li Xi, secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee, Secretary-General of the State Council Xiao Jie and He Lifeng, head of the National Development and Reform Commission, also attended the event.
